What does treatment look like?

There are many places youth are able to get testing/treatment, including through VOISES, going to their healthcare provider, and more. You can find more information about testing on our HIV/STI Testing 101 page. For treatment, a person would first need to be tested for said STI and then meet with a healthcare provider to be prescribed treatment.

Treatment often comes in the form of antibiotic medications that have to be taken as prescribed.

While a person is being treated for an STI, it’s important that they do not have sex until 7 days after treatment is completed. This is to prevent the spread of the STI and to prevent the person from contracting the STI again.

Expedited Partner Therapy (EPT)

Another option of treatment is EPT. This is the process where a provider will prescribe enough treatment for you and your partner. This can be helpful for people whose partners don’t have access to a provider to prescribe treatment.
